After more than 40 years of unsuccessful attempts to localize the various series, NoraInuG, TimeBokanTurnip, and others are stepping up to make a full translation of them a reality.
How are you going to localize Time Bokan?
The main characters will be keeping their names since in modern days this seems to be the norm, but secondary and one-off characters might have changes due to the play of words that is common throughout the series. For the original Time Bokan, I’m going to try to walk the line between a faithful translation and one that’s localized fun but takes liberties, and try to produce something of good quality.
Will you be putting the subbed episodes up online?
NoraInuG’s Yatterman subs can be found on his Youtube channel, though I don’t know if I will follow suit yet. The subs for the first seventeen episodes must be found elsewhere, while the actual subtitles for the original Time Bokan will be available for download at the very least.
When will the subs be released?
The subs for an episode will be released as soon as possible. A rough version will be on the Discord server for others to assist and clean up and the Yatterman subs will be uploaded to Youtube with embeds to watch it on here and on Discord. As something being done by a small group of people for free, please understand the work we’re putting into this and try to have a little patience.
Are you going to dub Time Bokan as well?
Though I have the tools to do one, I will not prioritize a dub until a good deal of the series has been subbed as a whole. That means everything that’s not post 2015, the Royal Revival OVAs, the audio dramas, or spinoff material. Only then will I consider doing a dub for at least one of the shows.
What Time Bokan series are you gonna do next after the original is done?
With NoraInuG doing the original Yatterman, I have no qualms about jumping ahead and doing something like Gyakuten! Ippatsuman. Or maybe even one of Tatsunoko Pro’s other shows like Gold Lightan. When that time comes, I’ll ask the fans which direction I should go with and head on out from there!
What can I do to help out?
On the Discord sever NoraInuG posts rough versions of the Yatterman subs that you can help refine, correct, and remark on so that their quality can be improved for a better experience. Those seeking to translate into another language are welcome too.
In addition to Discord, you can contribute to this site and help keep it active by posting and editing. The conditions for that will be posted elsewhere, but this if for fans who want to contribute in some form or fashion.
